Newsweek Article: Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

Last year, I signed up to become a volunteer for an amazing organization called Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS). In short, it’s a network of over 7000 professional photographers that volunteer to create portraits, free of charge, of babies and their families in the moments before or immediately after the baby’s death, due to any number of complicating factor. Families talk about how incredibly meaningful and even theraputic these portraits become during such a difficult time–they are a testament to the baby’s life and the love the family feels for the child. Newsweek recently wrote an online article about NILMDTS I wanted to share with you…to read it, click here.

As a mother of a child stillborn in 2002, I only wish that photographers like you were available to us. I have only a few polaroids and the first photos of my daughter, nothing intimate, nothing with her father and I holding her. What a selfless thing you are doing by entering those hospital rooms. Know you are giving those parents something they will treasure for the rest of their lives.
