Every Tuesday I bring you a tidbit of information meant to help you enhance your photography skills or simply your appreciation of photography. This week’s tidbit: avoid taking pictures of stuff growing out of people’s heads. This tidbit is also just an excuse to show you funny pictures of me and my friends.
Look Before You Click
One of the simplest things you can do to improve your photography is simply looking before you click. What are you looking for? Things growing out of people’s heads, as in telephone poles, signs, handrails, whatever. Below is an example of what I’m talking about (what NOT to do…note the lamp pole coming out of Leo’s head…he’s the one in blue). By simply moving a little to the right or left, or adjusting the angle of your camera, you can avoid these sort of unsightly scenes.
Disclaimer: this photo was taken at a Tobias Funke (of Arrested Development and Bluth family fame) party, hosted by my fabulous friend Anjali, at which everyone had to come dressed as one of the various characters that Tobias Funke has been on the show (Blue Man, Never Nude, etc.). Stellar photography was not the priority–having a fantabulous time was. Mission accomplished. Michael (yes, that’s my husband) is dressed as Dr. Funke, of the 100 Percent Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution and my good friend Leo is dressed as Tobias Funke as a Blue Man (as in, of The Blue Man Group).
And for good measure, here’s me dressed as Tobias Funke as Mrs. Phlyddia Featherbottom.
Seriously, if you haven’t seen the show, you’re missing out. Seriously.
Happy shooting from Vantage!
