Today’s Tuesday Tidbit for all you aspiring photographers out there is inspired by a soon-to-come post featuring Olivia and Lilly’s portrait session (get excited Jasmine!!). These two toddlers kept me on my toes the whole time I was with them and reinforced for me how important it is, when shooting in a photojournalistic style, to seize the moment. When you see a moment in front of you, one of those moments, the ones where you think “Oh perfect! Oh please hold that!”, take the picture. Don’t wait, don’t blink, just shoot. Know your camera well enough that you don’t have to think about how to adjust the settings for the situation in front of you…just make the changes and shoot. Better yet, be ready with those settings. Because in a nano second, that perfect moment will be gone. Seriously, less than a nano-second.
I STILL remember shots that were perfect in my mind…and then I sat and naval-gazed (for a second…ONE SECOND), thinking about what a great shot it would be, and then it was gone. With no one to blame but myself….
