You’ve heard me gush about the awesomeness that is Genevieve, Dempsey and Phoebe…and now they’ve gone ahead and added another amazing little person to their brood. World, I’m proud to introduce you to Lucy. Lucy might be the most chill little six day old kiddo I’ve ever met–she cried only twice during the entire session and slept like a log (er, baby?) even while Phoebe bounced around the room and did her best to keep Lucy awake. If there were a “baby who makes my job easy” award, Lucy would win it. For reals.

Vantage Kids | Leo | Chicago, Illinois

Every portrait photographer says it: being a part of my little clients’ lives as they grow up is one of the best parts of my job. Leo is no exception–I met Leo’s parents, Kelly and Paul, in Madison, Wisconsin, shot their wedding in Chicago, met Leo and shot his baby session at my folk’s house in Southeastern Wisconsin when he was three months old and saw him again recently in December for his one year (and a few months) session. Leo is one of the happiest little guys: he’s got this huge smile and gorgeous eyes (seriously, check out those blues!) and has an energy that’s incredibly charming. He also scoots like a champ; rather than do the boring crawl thing (that is so 2010), he’s invented this scooch thing that you sorta just have to see to understand. I tried replicating it for Michael to explain it and…well, Leo’s a lot better at it than I am.

My baby is four months old!

Ok, four and a half months. But as new parents can attest, it hurts to add that half month (they grow up so fast!) so I’ll round down. Every month around E’s birthday, I do a mini photo session with him to document his growth. Here he is at four months (yeah yeah, four months and one week in the photos…)

Vantage Kids | Happy Birthday Phoebe! | San Diego, California

This is the best part of my job: meeting the most fantabulous kids and getting to watch them grow up. I cannot BELIEVE that Phoebe is already a year old. Dude. For real. Wasn’t it just a couple weeks ago that I shot her newborn session? I love love love this family…makes my heart melt a little when I think about them. Ok, mushy stuff aside…happy birthday Phoebster! Hearts to you!

Vantage Babies | Declan and Gwendolyn | Two weeks old

Today’s math lesson: Declan+Gwendolyn=aDORable. You can’t get any cuter than cuddly twin newborns, that’s for sure. I got to spend an afternoon (well, more like late morning AND afternoon…twin sessions are loooooong) with these two and their parents (along with the awesome Jamie Lawler, assistant extraordinaire!). Gwendolyn, “the little diva” as her mommy calls her, has these big inquisitive eyes and the cutest little snort you’ve ever heard (her other nickname is Gwenipig); Declan is cool and calm, quietly taking in the world around him. Melinda and John (aka Mommy and Daddy) are loving, gracious…and troopers: even after we turned up the heat to 80 degrees in the house, then blasted the space heater in their bedroom to a whopping 95 degrees to keep the kiddos warm and happy, they remained calm, patient and radiant as ever. (P.S. Be sure to check out the last pic, details of the twins’ nursery–didn’t Melinda do a fantabulous job?!) It really was such a pleasure to work with this family and I hope to have the privilege of watching these little ones grow up. Yay for twins!

He’s here! Elliott Messner joined our little family on March 27, 2011 (his actual due date!) at 8:54am and has been bringing us lots and lots of love (as well as a lack of sleep and a major influx of laundry) since then. As any parent would attest, saying “we’re so happy” is the understatement of the decade….

Phoeeeeeeeebeeeeeeeee! This little girl lights up my life whenever I see her, which is thankfully fairly often because her parents rock and have become good friends of ours over the past year (if you follow this blog at all, you’ve seen Genevieve and Dempsey several times before, from their wedding to their maternity session to Phoebe’s newborn session). I just can’t believe she’s already nine months old…wowzer. Ok, I’m now going to unleash the adorableness with the slide show and sneak peek images: you’ve been warned.

With Baby Carmela and her parents, Nicole and Greg, everything just fell into place: it was a peaceful, sunny afternoon spent with a beautiful, loving and connected family. The thing that I loved most about this session was how much of a collaborative effort it was: both Nicole and Greg came to the table with ideas for the shoot and clearly saw the value in the images we were creating together…always a good feeling for a photographer. Carmela is one lucky baby.

Vantage Babies | Baby Leo

Little Leo the Lion…such a sweetheart and such a smile! The only thing that Leo’s mom, Kelly, asked was that I make sure to capture that smile–and as soon as I saw it for the first time, I knew exactly why she made that special request. Kelly and Paul (remember their gorgeous Chicago wedding from a couple years ago?) made the trek up to Wisconsin from Chicago while I was in town over the holidays just so I could capture that famous smile…and I’m so glad they did!
