Engaged! | Courtney + Sean | San Diego, California

A funny thing happened when Courtney first contacted me last year about shooting their wedding: I told her I was unavailable because I was pregnant and would be on maternity leave at the time. Courtney said she was disappointed but obviously understood. A week or so later, I got another email from her saying “wait, you know it’s May 2012 we’re getting married, not 2011, right?” Ha ha…clearly I had read initial email wrong because I wasn’t planning on being pregnant for over a year and a half (can you imagine the size of that baby??). So yaaaaay I was available and yaaaaaay they booked me…and I’m so glad they did because I super heart this couple with a cherry on top. Everything clicked on the day of their engagement session–the location was inspiring, the light was gorgeous and, as Sean remarked at the end of the session, we were an awesome team. The only thing that didn’t click for me right away? Getting my timing right on the last photo of the day–Sean doing a heel click as they were walking down the path (Sean loves doing heel clicks). I was struggling to get the shot exactly the way I wanted it…and it totally tapped into my competitive nature because I was like “dude, we’re getting this shot right.” And Sean was right there with me, saying “I can heel click all day. Look at this gorgeous lady I’m gonna marry–who wouldn’t want to do a heel click?” Yeah, seriously, that’s how cute they are because he was totally serious. A gazillion heel clicks later, success. Maternity Leave

I’m happy to say that our little family grew by one at the end of March (check out Elliott’s newborn pics on the blog!), which means we’ve got our hands full at the moment. I’m still responding to emails but I appreciate your patience if it takes more than 48 hours for me to get back to you….and you probably won’t see too many blog posts for a while.

If you’re interested in booking a wedding or portrait session with us, don’t worry! We’ll be back in full swing by the end of May and are still available for consultations in the meantime. Please don’t hesitate to contact us–we’d love to talk with you!

Engaged! | Robin + Dave | Little Italy, San Diego

Robin and Dave described themselves to me as laid back, goofy people that just like to have fun. Case in point? The photos from their engagement session: check out the slide show to see the poses they came up with in front of the Firehouse in Little Italy. Heart. I sorta kinda already knew they’d be super fun because Robin and Dave are friends with Meredith and Brian (remember that air guitar photo?) so I was pumped for the session…and not disappointed. The session was doubly fun because my hubster Michael came along to shoot as well. Yay for fun e-sessions and fun people! Thanks Robin and Dave–enjoy the slide show and sneak peek.

Engaged | Mary + Savva | San Diego, California

Mary contacted me a few weeks ago about Vantage’s “try before you buy” free engagement session offer (yep, we’re offering a free one hour session for couples that want to try us out before hiring us for their wedding) and I am so happy she did. Mary and Savva are a beautiful couple, inside and out: they have such a kind, loving presence about them and totally put me at ease. Even though I had set out intending to do a lot of shots that played with the architectural elements of the UCSD campus, specifically with several shots of Savva and Mary in different parts of the image’s frame, I just kept wanting them to be next to each other because, well, they just looked so peaceful and right together. I couldn’t help myself. :) Enjoy your sneak peek and slideshow, Mary and Savva.

Gettin’ my Blik on

I just got my first Blik decal in the mail a few minutes ago and I am soooo excited to put it up in my new office! Blik makes wall decals (aka stickers) that you can attach, peel off, reattach. Check out the awesome design I’m putting up (baby not included):

Alia + Justin: Sneak Peek and Slideshow

They’re married!!! You know those couples that just seem meant to be? Yeah, that’s Alia and Justin.

They met in high school and Justin developed a huge crush on Alia (his first real crush, he says)….but he never told her. After school, they fell out of touch and then, a while later, randomly ran into each other at a bar in Milwaukee one evening. Justin still had a crush on Alia and still didn’t tell her. They fell out of touch, again. And then, four years later, completely unintentionally, they ended up moving into the very same apartment complex in Madison, Wisconsin. After bonding over their love of pugs and regular HBO-watching get-togethers, things clicked into place and they started dating seriously. Perfect, right? Not quite. Justin was scheduled to move across the country to San Francisco in a matter of months. They tried to make the relationship work long-distance but it got too hard and they broke up. And then….this is so serendipitous…Alia called Justin out of the blue and said she was moving to San Francisco: she had been offered a transfer within her job to move to the Bay Area.

And the rest is history. It must be true: some things are just meant to be. Like Alia and Justin. Married.

How to Subscribe to the Vantage Blog

The Google Method

Click on “subscribe to this blog” at the top right hand side of this blog
Click “Add to Google Homepage” (requires you to have a google homepage first at www.igoogle.com)
A new VP gadget will be added to your homepage. Every time the blog is updated, you’ll see the updated version on your homepage.

The Generic Method

Click on “subscribe to this blog” at the top right hand side of this blog
A box will pop up (usually it’s yellow) that says something like “You are viewing a feed that contains frequently updated content. When you subscribe to a feed….etc etc”. Click on “Subscribe to this Feed”.
That will bring up a box that will ask you what you’d like to call the blog and then click to add it to the Microsoft Feed. The blog will be added to your Favorites Center and you can access it anytime you want.

You can always simply manually go to the blog on a regular basis by bookmarking the site…but that’s not as technologically snazzy. And everyone loves to be snazzy. lol
